The Pattern

Each card features an illustration drawn from the visual world of South India - from everyday objects and beloved foods to familiar rituals, textures and cultural details. Together, the cards create a playful collection of things that feel distinctly South Indian, bringing together the everyday and the nostalgic in one visual language.

Rather than following a single traditional motif, the deck draws from the diversity of South Indian life. Each illustration is a small reference to a place, flavour, memory or moment, creating a pattern of familiar things that invites recognition and discovery.

The Process
We began with a simple question: what are the little things that immediately remind us of South India?

From food and objects to rituals, symbols and everyday experiences, we gathered references that felt familiar, nostalgic and distinctly regional. These ideas were then translated into a series of illustrations, keeping the forms simple, recognisable and playful enough to work as a memory game.

Each illustration was developed as part of a larger visual family, with consistency across the deck while allowing every card to have its own character. The final set brings together these fragments of South Indian life in pairs - turning cultural familiarity into a game of observation, recall and connection.
