The Pattern
Athangudi tiles are a signature craft of Chettinad, known for their bold colours, precise geometry and intricate patterns. Handcrafted through layers of colour and line, their designs bring together symmetry, repetition and playful forms in compositions that are both meticulous and full of character.
The Process
For the jewellery box, we chose to let a single Aathangudi pattern take over the surface. Rather than combining multiple motifs, we repeated one tile design across the lid to create a continuous rhythm, allowing its geometry and colour to become the visual focus. Paired with the clean structure of glass and brass, the pattern becomes a considered expression of Aathangudi — vivid, detailed and distinctly contemporary.
